Hi, i'm maizy moonshine
I believe so deeply and with such intense conviction that what is meant for us will find us. “What you seek, is seeking you." And this is exactly how Maizy came into my life.
I knew I wanted horses in my life, ever since I was a little girl. I kept putting my dream off, and the more I did , the louder the calling became. Then suddenly one day I received a notification about a rescue horse up north in WA State and I felt a strong pull in my heart. I immediately scheduled a 2 hour trip to go meet her. She was just a filly still, under two years old. We were just at the tail the end of winter and she was all fluff with her winter coat still in full force. She was the cutest, most perfect creature I had ever laid eyes on. She was a wild mustang rescued from a BLM up in Oregon, so I didn’t expect much in terms of an immediate, close contact greeting. Boy was I dead wrong.
This sweet lil wild palomino mustang, with her white blaze on her forehead, walked right up to me in her pasture and gently nudged her sweet head into my chest.
Her message was clear. Here I am, I am your soul horse, I will be your mirror, I will teach you great things, you will help to heal my trauma, and together we will partner in beautiful healing work. And just two weeks later, after finding her a free roaming pasture to live in, I brought her home.
And Maizy has been just that. My soul horse. My guide. My endless teacher. My deepest healer. She is a medicine horse. She is my partner in life and in this path of offering this work, and it has helped her immensely with the things that she’s needed to journey through. There’s that connection of exchange in healing and partnership. She has swiftly become my lead mare as she has grown and matured. When you meet her you can just feel her energy of her massive presence. Her medicine is one of intuition, of leading with the strength of the feminine, and of knowing how to hold ourselves in the balance of softness and fierceness. What she has taught me in such a short amount of time is to occupy the fullness of ourselves, the vastness of our power, the trueness of who we inherently are. Without apology. Without doubt. She comes from trauma and wounding. As we all do. Maizy’s medicine gifts are reminding us that while the wounding is a part of us, it is our wisdom and our strength. It is not our identifier. It is not who we are. It instead, is our gift to be shared.
Another profound core teaching she has gifted me with, is the medicine of boundaries. I used to be someone that really struggled with setting a boundary, I didn’t want to hurt the feelings of others, I would rather put my head in the sand and avoid confrontation.
What I created in that behaviour was a dysfunctional environment within myself, the people in my life, and my nervous system became untrusting.
I wasn’t self-honoring. I was people pleasing from a core wound to feel accepted, loved, validated and included. Maizy taught me how to hold and have a different relationship with physical, emotional, and energetic boundaries. She is brilliant in her teaching of setting and holding healthy boundaries and in our work together continues to remind me of where I still need that practice. Because we are all a work in progress.
Maizy is my soul horse. Being a now tamed horse, gentle and inquisitive, affectionate and yet crystal clear in her message and communication, she still possesses that wild and free nature, reminding me that deep down we all seek to nurture that wildness aspect in ourselves. In her quiet and steadfast leadership she is the perfect partner in this healing equine alchemy experience.
In one of our sessions together she recently shared with me the medicine reminder of….
The space holds us, we don’t hold the space. Together, we will offer the gifts of beautiful healing. And that, is her medicine.
Hi, i'm willow grace
Where Maizy is my soul horse, Willow is my heart horse. They say that a heart horse becomes a part of you, indefinitely tied together. Heart horses are sent to us to provide us with the comfort of unconditional love, the lessons of patience, and the feeling of connection and deep gratitude. A heart horse is a horse whose heart compliments and mirrors your very own. This describes Willow perfectly. And again, I firmly believe with conviction that Willow, found me. Not the other way around.
Shortly after bringing Maizy home to a large barn facility, I was notified that the barn was closing and would need to find another place to board her almost immediately. I searched frantically for over a week and finally came across the most peaceful and perfect family owned farm where they both are now. The only thing was, Maizy would need a herd mate, as there was no other horse in that front pasture where she would live. Horses are herd animals and need other horses around them to survive.
So, I put it out to the universe that I needed to find the best herd mate for Maizy. Right around this same time my trainer was bringing in an 8 month old yearling from Eastern WA to get ready to start and sell. I wanted to go meet her because I was dying to see a sweet lil baby yearling. Well, of course it was absolute love at first sight and we connected and bonded immediately! Her affectionate nature was apparent instantly! Again, her message was clear.
I want to become a part of the space you hold in the horse/human partnering. We are meant to journey this life together and remind humans that within each of us, we carry a magic that is larger than the physical self.
A week or two later, both horses were transferred to their new home, and they bonded immediately (well after Maizy gave her a swift lil kick letting Willow know she’d be boss!) and have been inseparable since!
Willow is a 2 year old filly, (yes I was crazy enough to start my horse journey with two babies!) and she is a 3/4 Friesians-1/4 Gypsy Cob mix. Friesians are incredibly affectionate, calm and well-mannered and highly intelligent and intuitive. They have been known to symbolize life-long friendships, support, connection and community, scholarship and creativity. Gypsy Cob horses are very mild-mannered, steadfast, friendly, patient and have a highly engaging and curious personality. Willow is all of these things and more. She is a horse that wants to get as close as she can to you and she actually seems to prefer the presence of people than she does her own herd mates and will always let you know how she feels about being in your space. She’s often described as an in-your-back-pocket horse because she loves to be social and near people.
Where Maizy has swiftly positioned herself as the lead mare from the very first moment they met, Willow happily has taken on the role of the young happy-go-lucky and care free soul with her playful spirit. Willow’s medicine for me has been reminders to allow for more play in my life. She has often conjured up my little inner child girl self, showing me who she was and what her dreams were, and to bring those forward into my present day life.
Willow’s medicine is also reminding Maizy of this, encouraging playful prancing and exploration and this has done wonders for healing her trauma.
Willow’s most prominent medicine and strength is one of authenticity. In order to have her spend time in your presence you must meet her in that space of authentic connection. She demands nothing less. She is unequivocally patient with us as we find our way to knowing our true power and shows us what it looks like to step forward in the most powerful parts of who we are.
She boldly displays the power of her stride and invites us to explore and see the heights in which we are destined to rise to in our lives. That, is her medicine.
In addition, there are four other horses in the herd on the farm, Kira, Peter, Iago and Fresca, each with different owners. However, I have been blessed with and granted permission to allow a partnership with this herd for this beautiful work and practice with them as well. They are a bit older, more mature, & retired pasture horses. They will be an integral part of this alchemy and it is in their sage experience and wisdom that they hold a very sacred space within this container for this work, in their own spirit.

Four beautiful creatures with the most tender hearts who have become a part of our herd, and we thank them for gracing us with their healing spirits as we practice this grounding work on such sacred land.
